Bob Simonds is a famous entrepreneur and film producer who serves as the chairman and CEO of STX Entertainment, a fully integrated entertainment company. According to Variety, Simonds has been very ambitious of the global media company since its 2014 launch. His unique approach to filmmaking for over two decades has helped him lead the company on a successful note. He co-founded STX with Bill McGlashan, who is the founder and managing partner of private equity firm TPG Growth. Simonds initiated conceptualizing and building a film, television and multimedia company that would make, market and distribute star-driven, commercial content all over the world. The company runs on the principle that talent-driven, mid-budget motion pictures present the greatest opportunity in the current movie marketplace.

Under Simonds' leadership, STX Entertainment has received huge investments from Chinese private equity firm Hony Capital and other individuals including Gigi Pritzker and William "Beau" Wrigley, Jr. II. In 2016, the next-generation media company received strategic investments from PCCW, Tencent Holdings, and others.

The firm is built on self-sustaining business model and aims to expand its operations through television, international operations, music, digital, app-based, virtual reality, and others.

Bob Simonds' VR and immersive content division of STX Entertainment, that is STXsurreal has recently announced that they will partner with DNEG to co-finance STX's upcoming slate of premium, original, short-form VR series. In the deal, DNEG will exclusively give post-production VFX and 3D conversion services to STXsurreal for at least six projects. STX is revolutionizing its idea to create premium, original, narrative VR content with the SURREAL channel. With the help of DNEG, it will make optimum utilization of the Oscar-winning visual effects expertise and provide a truly cinematic and high-quality immersive experience to the audiences. The original VR programming is being created in a fully new format in order to bridge the gap between traditional widescreen and 360-degree video. The channel will start with a live-action, short-form virtual reality series THE LIMIT.

With the company recently announcing many new original short-form series, STX Entertainment promises to be the next major studio in Hollywood. For example, a new comedy series is in works from 'The Office' star Ed Helms, an untitled Dave Bautista action-comedy, a spinoff of STX's 'Mile 22' film franchise from director Peter Berg, a 'Jay and Silent Bob' project from writer and director Kevin Smith, and a Sci-fi-thriller from 'John Wick' writer Derek Kolstad.
