American education: Increasing in numbers but lacking in quality

The collective prosperity of the country is said to depend upon the level of education that a country provides to its citizen. However, this needs to be understood that only the number of people who can read or write does not depict or guarantees a bright and prosperous future for the country, but the main thing regarding the beneficial education system is the quality of education that was provided by the state to their citizen. America is amongst the countries who are sharing the highest literacy rate in the world, but according to the results of Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), it was found that the American students are amongst the lowest performing countries in the international test conducted in 2012.

These results were the alarming signs for the concern educational authorities in the country and also exposes the quality of education that we are providing to our students who are deemed to be the future administrators of the country. According to the new research and some professors university research papers One of the reasons which were put forward for such poor results of American students is shared to be as it is due to the low background students of the country which are mostly African American students who do not have obtained the quality level of basic education which results in poor performance in their later academic studies.

Poverty Rate in America

However, this fact is not so true because the poverty rate in America is 22 percent, on the contrary Vietnam which is amongst the highest performing country in the international test conducted by PISA in 2012 have a poverty rate of 79 percent. Therefore, it was shared that Vietnam students have performed far better than the American students. Therefore, the poor background might be one of the reasons for such poor performance, but it is not the only or the highly concerned reason.

Another fact that was shared by PISA is that the American students have been failed to solve most of the math problems which were easily and efficiently solved by the students from other countries like China, Singapore, and Vietnam etcetera. This shows the lack of intelligence capabilities of the American students which were needed to solve the math problems efficiently. This issue was raised by many expert educationists in America before that the current American system of education does not provide the opportunity to students for developing a right-thinking pattern in order to solve tricky question whether it relates to mathematics or high-level business scenarios in the professional education. However, there is a need to develop such education system and design an effective assessment system which requires the students to not only use the theoretical knowledge in the topic or subject but also require them to jog their minds to get the tricky questions solved.

Conclusion

However, it is the need of an hour for the redesigning of the educational system in the USA which should be made according to the dynamic and ever-changing challenges of the globe, and this might include the more complex yet doable educational assessments and which also make our students ready for the global educational challenges.
