Simplest Way to Begin Composting

Composting and natural fertilizers facilitates the gardener with great produce, pretty flowers, delicious & sweet fruits & grains, and a healthy garden without toxic chemicals & fertilizers. Composting converts the trash into landfills and this way it serves the Mother Nature too. It improves the backyard of your home too.

Composting is a fine way to produce organic and healthy food which helps to keep you healthy. You just need to follow these simple steps to turn the garbage into compost and feel amazed to see the beautiful garden developed by you.

Set up a bin or container to make compost

Select an outdoor space for the compost where sunlight can reach easily. It is the space where soil can develop faster. Water the biodegradable & organic waste and keep it in container. To maintain the moisture keep it in a closed bin. You can buy the container online or from a general gardening equipment store.

Collect scraps

You can collect the waste from garden and kitchen. To keep the compost healthy combine brown and green waste equally. Green waste includes vegetable & fruit garbage and brown waste can be woods, dry leaves, grass, newspaper etc. Balancing both of the waste is crucial because brown waste is rich in carbon and green waste fulfills supply of nitrogen.

Compost also requires oxygen and moisture so keep it in air and nourish with water to fulfill its urge. But don’t mix dairy, pet waste, oil, fats & animal products because the compost will start to smell and rotten.

Wait

Wait for few weeks so the food scrap could turn into soil. Mix the mixture with garden fork and see the progress. If you’re not observing any progress than add some green garbage or if it is wet or smelly then add more brown garbage.

Use new soil

If the compost smells and looks like soil then it is ready to use. You can use it in your garden and sprinkle it on top or land bed.

But keep it in mind compost is a way to offer nutrients to the plants so don’t replace it with soil. It acts as natural fertilizer and nurture the soil and plants with healthy nutrients. You can sprinkle it in your garden for couple of times.

Use homemade, natural and organic compost to produce healthy food and fresh garden without chemical fertilizers.
