Relieving Letter: Components & Samples

A relieving letter is an official document given by a company to its employees on their last working day. It is a formal way of stating to the employee that their resignation has been accepted. This official document is absolutely necessary at the time of entering a new company. It should specify the onboard time along with the fact that the employee has no unpaid dues with the previous company. Additionally, it also acts as proof that the employee has officially left their position at their company.

Just like any other official document, a relieving letter has to follow a proper relieving letter format. Hence, let's take a look at all of its components:

  • The employee's information: The relieving letter must contain the name and other details of the employee.
  • Name of the employer: It should include the reporting manager's name along with the company's letterhead.
  • Date of last working day: The letter must specify the date of the last working day of the employee.
  • Tenure of employment: It should also specify the tenure of their employment, i.e. the total count of years spent serving at the company.
  • State the end of employment: The relieving letter also needs to state that the employee has been officially relieved from all their responsibilities at their previous company. It should clearly state that they have left their job at their company.
