Sunburn is the big issue in summers. People are forced to cover them with cotton and light colored clothes to protect them from extreme sun rays. Sunburn can happen at any time of the year but severely in summers. Exposure of skin to ultra-violet rays of the sun is the reason for sunburn. When your skin gets in contact with the UV rays, then the exposed skin starts producing melanin pigment. Melanin is a dark pigment present in the upper layer i.e. epidermis of the skin. It colors the skin and determines how tan it can become. Melanin acts as a cover to protect the inner layers of skin from UV rays. So you should keep yourself protected from sun exposure to avoid tanning and redness. Here are some natural remedies to cure it, have a look:

Potatoes

Whenever your skin gets in contact with sunlight and becomes red and hot, then slice up a potato or make its paste. You can apply its paste, slices or juice on sunburned area. Potatoes have been known as pain reliever, cure minor skin irritation, scratches, burn and reduce inflammation.

Cool milk compress

Cool milk compress is a quick, easy and feasible way to heal sunburn. The coolness of milk is used to treat the heat and milk creates a protein layer on the skin to help you heal sunburn. You can apply it to clean and soft cotton cloth.

Baking soda & corn starch

Corn starch has a silky structure to soothe sunburn. It is easily available in a home like milk. You can use baking soda if corn starch is not available. Make a consistent paste using water and then apply on burned area.

Keep yourself hydrated

One of the reasons behind sunburn is dehydration. Drink as much water, juices and glucose to keep your skin hydrated. Skin gets burned when it is completely dehydrated. So water and juices keep you hydrated.

Aloe vera

Use aloe vera leaves to treat sunburn. Aloe vera is used to heal some ailments like heartburn, acne, skin problems, etc. you can keep aloe vera plant at home. It is easy to maintain. Use pulp or gel of its leaves and apply on sunburn.

Oatmeal

You can apply oatmeal to relieve sunburn. Wrap oatmeal in a gauze or cheesecloth and run cool water over it. Discard oats and use soak compresses in liquid. Use it 2 to 4 hours.

You can even use lettuce, yogurt, tea bags, etc. to cure sunburn. Try and see the results.
