Disappearing Honey Bees & It's Global Impacts

What will happen to the world if the Honey Bees Disappear?

According to recent studies US put seven bees under US endangered list, where US govt. has declared that 7 species of Hawaiian yellow-faced bees have officially been added to the endangered species list. such actions of US Wild Life Services may help the affected population to rebound the biggest pollinators from becoming extinct.

Native pollinators in the US provides essential pollination services to agriculture. Which are valued more than US$ 9 billion annually?

You must be thinking, what role does this tiny creature play? It may be tiny in size but it is a great participant in the ecological chain. The simple fact is if the bees didn't exist neither would humans. The honey bees are dying at an alarming rate over the past decade. You may hate bees, but they are responsible for 90% of the food served on your plate. Bees are praised with a quality of pollination of agricultural crops by nature.

Now question arise, why are bees disappearing?

There is an ongoing debate presently, pesticides are the main culprits. Since the end of world war ii, the uses of pesticides have increased, the widespread we of pesticide is known as Neonicotinoids, is having an adverse effect on bees' health. These pesticides are terrible for the environment as they are poisoning the bees and other pollinators.

In 1990's beekeepers started recording major losses of worker honey bees during winter, since then many of the 4000 species of bees died off, that was a mass die-offs, then this phenomenon was named as colony collapse disorder. Here are the practical impacts on human and nature when bees listed as extinct species:

Honey will disappear:

Beekeeping was practiced for agricultural crops pollination, humans have been harvesting honey for 9000 years and till now it is a huge part of medicinal and day to day eating habits. Except for pollination bees also produces honey and wax.

Fruits and vegetable will stop growing

As we know bee plays an important role in pollination and contribute in ecosystem too, in abundance of pollination crops will not go. Out of 100 agricultural crops, 70 crops are pollinated by bees. which provide food supply to 90 percent of the world's population. If bees disappear, food will also.

Dairy products will disappear

As there will no grains, crops, and grasses to feed the animals, how would they survive? It will result into mass dies off animals, and without animals, there will be no dairy products.

Except this cotton will not grow, food costs will be on the peak which results into malnutrition. The scarcity of food will result in the end of all species as the chain of eco-system break down.
