Types of Cheese

Cheese is one ingredient everyone is fond of. Everyone, irrespective of the age can be heard instructing the person opposite the counter to add extra cheese in our order. Plus cheese can be added to almost everything these days making it one of the most desirable content in our burgers, pizzas, and pasta. These days cheese are available in so many attractive colors and sizes that attract us.

Now let us have a look as to from where these wonderful cheese originated and how many of them we actually know.

  • Asiago Cheese- Named after Asiago High Plateau region of Italy, this cheese originated in Europe. It is of further two types – Pressato ( fresh Asiago) and Asiago d’Allevo (mature Asiago). Matured Asiago is yellow and grainy textured.

  • Blue Cheese- It is made up of cow’s milk, goat’s milk, and sheep’s milk and has a different smell. Blue cheese was originally made in caves and are now made under controlled environment as that of a cave. They can be eaten raw or can we sprinkled over food.

  • Cheddar Cheese- Originated in the Cheddar region in England, is made up of cow’s milk. Ranges from mild to sharp and from natural to pumpkin orange in color.

  • Cream Cheese- It is made by adding cream to cow’s milk and is often fresh. It is available in white color and is sweet and fresh in taste.

  • Feta Cheese- Originated in Greece, it is one of the oldest known cheese worldwide. Feta cheese is made up of sheep’s milk and goat’s milk. It is pure white in color and very strong smell. It is soft and easy to spread.

  • Goat Cheese- Goat cheese is made up of goat milk and is strongly flavored. It is bitter in taste due to all the plants that a goat consumes.

  • Swiss Cheese- Originated in Switzerland, this type of cheese is sweet as made from cow’s milk. It is slightly yellow in color and has holes in it.

  • Burrata Cheese- It si fresh cheese commonly used in salads and Italian cuisine. It is a made after blending curd and milk in different proportions.

  • Mozzarella Cheese- Originated traditionally in Italy, this is a very popular type of cheese in Europe. It is white and slightly yellow in color. It is widely used in Italian dishes and salads.

  • Camembert Cheese- Originated in France, this cheese is commonly used in Sandwiches, Salads, and baked crust.
