But artistry apart, cinematography is also a highly technical field. No film can be made without a cinematographer. ZIMA, provides one of the premier cinematography courses in India, one that equips students with all the important techniques and theories required to succeed in this industry. Cinematography is the process of capturing aesthicallty pleasing visuals on film, and at ZIMA, the students are imparted this knowledge through training by top faculty, who have rich experience in films, TV and other multimedia platforms. ZIMA offers a cinematography course that can help the students to be more creative and help them understand the art behind cinematography. This course covers the major 4 pillars of cinematography which are writing, direction, cinema techniques and editing.

• The principles of still and motion picture photography
• Various types of light sources and their practical application
• Basics of Lighting, Detailed Practicals on Various Types of Lighting Situations
• Filters and Composition, study of colour temperature, Depth of Field
• Study of movie cameras and various types of film stock
• Understanding single camera & multi camera placements
• Reasons for selecting a camera style
• Study of video cameras and principles of videography
• Principles of Optics as applied to Photography
• Assignments and Group Projects for Students on Digital Cameras

The course will be spread out over a period of 6 months, and will last three hours a day for three days a week. Students will have to complete 1 practical and 1 film appreciation session per week. This will help the students to expand their minds to perform creatively and will help the students to be more productive in their work. After graduating from a cinematography course from ZIMA, students will acquire the ability and confidence to assist any cinematographer/videographer, both in films and television. With the help of this course, the students have the opportunity to work with some of the renowned filmmakers of the industry at various intervals during the period of the course.
